With iOS 15.4, Apple disabled the ability to change the playback speed in third-party apps using the Apple Music API and its content. However, Apple has now decided to reintroduce that feature with iOS 15.5.

The news comes from Apple developer Joe Kun, who attended the Apple Developer Forums to announce that Apple has reevaluated its “previous decision to disable the playback speed change for subscription content from Apple Music in third-party applications” and concluded that “they could safely re-enable that functionality, just like before the release of iOS 15.4.”

“As such, this issue has been fixed in iOS 15.5 beta 4,” Kun said.

Third party apps like Perfect Tempo will be able to adjust the playback speed for Apple Music content running iOS 15.5

Apple did not disclose the reason for disabling the ability of third-party apps that use the Apple Music API to adjust playback speed, but according to Kun’s post, it’s safe to say that the feature has been disabled due to a bug that has now been fixed.

iOS 15.5 is still in beta, so those on the stable channel will have to wait to be able to start adjusting the playback speed in third-party apps using the Apple Music API.
