The PvE exploration and survival game Valheim was released on Steam Early Access on February 2nd. Surprisingly, the debut title from Swedish studio Iron Gate managed to sell more than a million copies in its first week, the developer announced on Steam.

What is this game about? The setting and characters are inspired by Viking culture. To this end, the game procedurally generates an environment intended to simulate a Viking Purgatory filled with opportunities to explore the land, farm crops, sail ships, and build armor and weapons.

But you will need all the weapons you can get because the game throws you at mythical bosses that are larger than life. Fortunately, you don’t have to face these enemies alone – each server can handle up to ten players, and you can all work together to increase your chances of survival.

Even though the game is relatively new, you won’t have a hard time finding players to team up with. The game has already peaked at 160,000 concurrent players, which is impressive enough for a new early access game. And the title proved quite popular with streamers and streaming fans, with Valheim peaking 127,000 views on Twitch.

Perhaps the best news for fans of the game is that Iron Gate is busy collecting tips from players on how to improve the game. And while they didn’t mention any specific issues by name, the developer made an announcement on Steam stating that they were “currently working on fixing issues that some of our players have reported to maximize the game experience.”

What do we know about the future of this game? Iron Gate offered a Valheim roadmap to excite players for the future of the game. But players can only guess what some of the things on the map mean.

For example, “The Ships and the Sea” looks like it will obviously focus on sailing. Meanwhile, “Hearth and Home” is likely to focus on creation and home fortifications, while “Cult of the Wolf” is just a mysterious wildcard.

So far, only PC players can enjoy Valheim. Iron Gate previously said it could bring the game to Mac if there is enough interest. Unfortunately, there are currently no plans to release this game for home consoles.
