Sony has tested the beta version of a major September update for PlayStation5. And now they’ve officially scheduled the update to be available to everyone on Wednesday, September 15th.

Since the console launched last November, it has only received one previous update. And this update will have a lot more features requested by the players.

For example, the console will finally have M.2 SSD support for storage expansion. This means you can supplement the console’s internal storage by purchasing an NVME Gen 4 SSD for the system’s dedicated slot. This is important because gamers can now install games on this external storage, which they previously couldn’t do with other USB storage solutions.

Audiophiles will appreciate that the update includes 3D audio support for your TV’s speakers. Now you no longer have to use headphones to enjoy this great feature.

Many of the other updates are designed to make using the system more convenient for gamers. In the Game Center, you will now be able to hide and rearrange icons as you see fit. The Game Center will now also include a handy Trophy Tracker. And if you’ve installed both PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game, a new tile design will help you determine which is which.

Are you excited about this update or are you still waiting to find a PS5 to buy? Let us know in the comments!
