Launched in September 2021, the GT Neo 2 is Realme’s latest addition to the high-end segment and looks like an attractive option at its price point. The Android OS is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G chipset and up to 12GB of RAM. The built-in memory of 256 GB offers plenty of space for photos and videos, which can be viewed on a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with FHD + resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate.

The camera is built around a main module with a 64MP sensor and an f / 1.8 aperture lens. It is accompanied by an ultra-wide 8MP camera with a focal length equivalent to 15.7mm and a dedicated macro camera with 2MP resolution. In video mode, you can record clips with a resolution of up to 4K.

Let’s take a closer look at the results of the Realme GT Neo 2 in the SBMARK Camera tests.

Key Camera Specifications:

  • Primary: lens with an aperture of f / 1.8 equivalent to 64 MP, 26 mm
  • Ultra-wide: 8MP sensor, lens with an f / 2.3 aperture equivalent to 15.7mm
  • Macro: 2MP sensor, 21.88mm equivalent lens
  • Flash LED
  • Video: 4k at 30/60 fps, 1080p at 30 fps (tested)

About SBMARK Camera Tests: For scoring and analysis in our smartphone camera reviews, SBMARK engineers capture and evaluate over 3000 test images and more than 2.5 hours of video in both controlled laboratory environments and indoor and outdoor natural scenes, using the default camera settings. This article aims to highlight the most important results of our tests. For more information on SBMARK Camera Test Protocol, please click here. Test summary

Pros

  • Good exposure in bright light, indoors and flash shots
  • Good and stable white balance in bright light conditions
  • Nice bokeh shots with a good blur gradient and decent subject isolation
  • Good color, white balance and exposure in close range shots
  • Beautiful colors in indoor and outdoor videos
  • Decent facial tracking in the video
  • Good stabilization in bright light videos

Cons

  • Limited dynamic range results in highlight clipping
  • Unstable exposure in photos and videos
  • Inaccurate color and color gradients in low light conditions
  • Slight lack of detail in bright light, noise in all conditions
  • Image artifacts including fringes and shimmer
  • Lack of detail, soft corners and cropping on the ultra wide angle camera
  • Loss of focus when recording video, especially in low light conditions
  • Low texture / noise compromise in the video

With a SBMARK camera score of 106, Realme GT Neo 2 is not a great improvement over its GT Neo predecessor and occupies a central position in the high-end camera segment ranking, with exposure issues such as instability and clipping. highlights and shadows, as well as high levels of noise and image artifacts, prevent you from achieving a higher score. Overall, the Realme performs best in bright light conditions, for both photos and videos. Target exposure and white balance are accurate in photos, and videos can produce beautiful, vivid colors. Video stabilization is effective too, resulting in fairly smooth footage. Compared to the GT Neo, the score increase of two points is mainly due to the improvements in the video.

Images captured in bright light have good exposure and accurate, repeatable white balance.

When shooting still images, the camera delivers good exposures in bright light, with slightly less highlight clipping than its predecessor. Additionally, the images produce accurate and repeatable white balance, resulting in limited blending and consistent colors outdoors.

In this low-light lab scene, texture is rendered better on the GT Neo 2 than its predecessor.

Target exposure is good in bright light conditions.

Exposure comparison: Overall exposure is acceptable in all lighting conditions but in low light the GT Neo 2’s images are slightly darker than those of the competition.

When shooting in bokeh mode, subject isolation and background blur are applied consistently in consecutive shots.

When shooting in typical indoor lighting, the preview image on the display is very similar to the final capture, with only slight differences in exposure, color, texture, and noise.

Realme GT Neo 2, the preview image is usually close to final capture in indoor conditions

The Realme is equipped with an ultra wide-angle camera that captures good details in bright conditions, but can also suffer from noisy images. There’s no dedicated telephoto lens, so don’t expect high levels of detail when you zoom in, but color rendition and white balance are both accurate at telephoto settings.

Realme GT Neo 2, close range canvases, good white and color balance as well as texture rendering

In video mode, the GT Neo 2 offers good exposure adaptation when the scene changes, as well as beautiful colors in all conditions. Also, face detection does a good job of keeping subjects in focus.
