Xiaomi’s “book-like”, “large-style”, “landscape-folding”, “phone turns into tablet” foldables are already in their third generation with the recently launched Mix Fold 3, but so far the company has stayed out the flip-style folding market, although many of its Chinese competitors have taken the plunge.

From the looks of it, Xiaomi won’t stay out of the tipping space for long. The Xiaomi Mix Flip moniker was spotted in an IMEI database in China today, confirming that such a device is on the way, with the model number 2311BPN23C.

Xiaomi Mix Flip is coming

According to a previous rumor, the Mix Flip will launch alongside the Mix Fold 4 next year, in which case the wait would be far from over, but at least now we know that Xiaomi is actually working on a flip-style foldable as well. Other sources instead speculate (based on the model number starting with 23) that the Mix Flip will actually release later this year. The rumored design of the Mix Flip has also been leaked, check it out for yourself below.

Once opened, the side of the screen looks like any other flip out there, but the camera island stands out and looks a bit like the one on a Pixel in this sketch, but could turn out very different in real life. There are three sensors, which means there will be a telephoto lens and it is said to offer 3x optical zoom.

Unsurprisingly, the phone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC which is expected to go official next month. Given that the Mix Fold 3 is very thin and light for a foldable, perhaps the Mix Flip will also have those attributes to feel like part of the family.

One final note: so far all Mix Folds have been confined to China, and the Mix Flip may unfortunately share the same fate.
