The annual Apple Design Awards celebrate the 12 best apps and games on the App Store in 6 categories ranging from inclusiveness to interaction and innovation. Here are this year’s winners.
Inclusivity
App: Universe — Website Builder
Universe is a simple and easy to use website builder that helps users create their own websites. There are plenty of customization options with the ability to add an online showcase, community page or personal website. The app supports dynamic type and VoiceOver for users with disabilities.

It brings the calming and meditative art of needlework into a game format with progressively more difficult designs. The game supports multiple languages and accessibility options for users with color blindness, low vision and motion sensitivity.
Delight and fun
Application: Duolingo
The well-established language learning app is this year’s winner in the Delight and Fun category thanks to its broad, playful approach to language learning that helps users stay engaged.
Duolingo and Afterplace
Game: Afterplace
Afterplace is an indie RPG with intuitive one-handed controls, a vintage look and a deep storyline. The title offers fun surprises and many hidden rewards for players to discover.
Interaction
Apps: fickle
Flighty offers detailed flight tracking, airport navigation and delay prediction for travellers. It also keeps tabs on flight miles and offers beautifully laid out widgets, Siri shortcuts, and live activity to help travelers stay on track on their next trip.
Steering Wheel and Railbound
Game: Railbound
Railbound puts you in control of a huge range of train journeys as you control the layout of the tracks and their directions. The game offers little insight into how you should progress through the levels leaving you engulfed for hours at a time.
Social impact
Apps: Headspace
Headspace is the winning app for the social impact category. It offers users easy-to-follow instructions for meditation, sleep improvement, and ways to improve focus and reduce the stress of everyday life.
Headspace and Endling
Game: Final
Endling is an eco-conscious side-scrolling adventure where you take control of a mother fox and her cubs in an environment filled with pollution and human activity. The game shows the true nature of human activity on nature through the eyes of wild animal with touching storyline and powerful message.

Capcom’s legendary Resident Evil franchise has finally arrived on the Mac last and has offered some of the most realistic graphics to grace the Mac gaming sphere to date.
Innovation
