Just like last year with the Mark 4, people love the Sony Xperia 5 V, but they don’t love its price. In other words, it’s a great phone, except there are other great phones out there that don’t cost as much.

That’s not all, Sony has yet to announce the phone’s release in North America, which excludes one of the most important markets: affluent consumers who have a limited selection of brands in their local stores. That said, this turned out to be a relatively minor issue in the survey.

As for the hardware, the Xperia 5 (unsurprisingly) received praise for its exceptional battery life. And of course, the microSD slot and headphone jack that appear together on a phone are special. Sony’s trademark 21:9 screen aspect ratio also continues to receive positive comments.

Weekly survey results: The Sony Xperia 5 V is a great phone but it's overpriced

It’s not all perfect, though. Completely removing the telephoto lens proved to be an unpopular move (what was Sony thinking?). The Mark 5 has also been criticized for its poor thermal management. Sony also lags behind the competition in terms of software support, not great for a phone that costs this much. And the display’s high refresh rate mode could really use a proper Auto mode (if not a switch to LTPO).

The Sony Xperia 5 V will go on sale at the end of this month, pre-orders should start soon. Pre-orders receive a free pair of WH-CH720N noise-canceling headphones (worth €100). Check out our written and video review to know more about the phone.
