ZTE has just announced its flagship camera nubia Z50S Pro. Like other nubias (and some Axons) before it, this one features a 35mm lens, a photography classic not often seen on mobile devices as most phones have wider lenses.

ZTE has worked hard to improve the optics. The 35mm lens uses one glass and six plastic elements and has a large f/1.59 aperture. This might be hard to imagine, so check out this video which offers a look at the opening in different terms.

The video shows the disassembly of the Z50S Pro and the removal of the main camera module. Inside is a 1/1.49″ 50MP sensor, smaller than the 1″ sensors inside the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and Xiaomi 13 Pro (both with f/1.9 aperture). The nubia’s aperture measures 5.21mm in diameter, compared to the Xiaomi’s 4.97mm and 4.10mm.

ZTE has also worked hard on the software side with a redesigned user interface and camera functionality. You get manual controls and can change the look of your photos with 3D LUTs. The dedicated night mode has also been improved with adaptive contrast improvements and fixes for common issues like ghosting.
