Samsung just released a new update to its Camera Assistant app, adding a 2x zoom crop to the current Galaxy S23 series. The 2x zoom toggle is, of course, added to the default Camera app, and Samsung says it’s not just a standard crop but an optimized zoom mode.

The camera assistant with version 1.1.03.1 it can be downloaded from Samsung’s Galaxy Store, and the company advertises it as the Optical Quality Crop Zoom. The Korean tech giant explains that the new feature works as a sensor-level cutout using the main camera. In reality, the quality should be similar to dedicated 3x and 10x telephoto lenses.

To get this feature, you need to install the latest Samsung update which brings the August 2023 security patch as well as new versions of the Camera Assistant app.
