Introduction and specifications

The Poco F series was a real problem, but its mid-range offerings started to look more promising with the expansion of the secondary brand. Enter the Poco X4 GT – a solid upgrade over last year’s X3 GT and perhaps a more reasonable alternative to the standard Poco F4.

Undoubtedly, the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 SoC is the star of the show. We had the opportunity to test it and it shows an impressive price / performance ratio: more powerful and efficient than the Snapdragon 870, but capable enough to compete with the Snapdragon 888 as well. To get into the game it was necessary to compromise the recent Dimensity 8100 in the price of the Poco X4 GT, and that’s the screen. An IPS panel instead of an OLED should do.

Xiaomi Poco X4 GT specifications at a glance:

  • Body: 163.6×74.3×8.9 mm, 200 g; Gorilla Glass 5 front, back and plastic frame.
  • Screen: 6.60 inch IPS LCD, 144Hz, HDR10, Dolby Vision, 500nits (typical), 650nits (HBM), 1080x2460px resolution, 20.5: 9 aspect ratio, 407ppi.

However, this is not your regular budget IPS LCD screen. The Poco X4 GT uses a bright and fast (144Hz) screen which is also Dolby Vision certified. There is also a faster response time in the menu with a touch sample rate of 270Hz. Especially useful for fast-paced games.

By the way, since there’s a GT in the name, the phone is meant for gaming. The cooling design has been optimized and now offers a 32% larger cooling area with seven layers of graphite. There’s no need to worry about Bluetooth latency too: Xiaomi is resetting the jack after being knocked out in the Poco X3 GT.

No changes in the battery department, but at first we didn’t expect it. A 5,080mAh battery is very competitive and charges quite fast compared to Xiaomi’s 67W charging standard.

Last but not least, the X4 GT is replacing the 64MP main sensor with a larger one this year. It’s nice to see the updated successor in almost every respect. At least on paper, here. Let’s take a deeper dive beyond the specs on the following pages.

Unboxing of the Xiaomi Poco X4 GT

There is nothing out of the ordinary inside the Poco X4 GT’s box. It has all the usual user manuals along with the appropriate 67W charger and a USB-A to USB-C cable, which is also used for data transfer.

There is also a bonus clear silicone case which fits very well.
