According to a new report, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and especially the iPhone 15 Pro Max are in short supply once they launch in September. This apparently has to do with issues with screen manufacturing at LG Display.

These issues stem from the fact that a new manufacturing process is used to reduce the size of the frame. It’s apparently a similar issue that Apple has faced with some Apple Watch models in the past as well.

The iPhone 15 Pro displays (and, again, the Pro Max in particular) made by LG reportedly failed reliability tests during a process in which the display is fused to the metal shell. Apple is currently tweaking the design of LG-made displays to pass the above tests, and still has displays made by Samsung that it can use for assembly.

Still, these issues will presumably lead to not having many units available at launch. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the hardest to get hold of, followed by the Pro.

A separate report today claimed that Apple would delay the launch by a few weeks, but this new source contradicts that, going with the shortage hypothesis. Either way, something is wrong with those displays and it’s affecting Apple’s launch plans.
