Google’s latest Pixel is having some issues, a claim you may have often heard us say, but this time it may be a little serious. Reviewers noted that the fingerprint sensor on the newly launched Pixel 6a appears to unlock even with unregistered prints.

The matter was first brought to light by Beebom on Youtube. During testing, the Pixel 6a unlocked with the fingerprints of two additional team members even though their fingerprints were never registered.

The results were confirmed by Geekyranjit on YouTube, where he was able to unlock the phone with both fingerprints, even if only one was registered.

It goes without saying that this nullifies the security benefits of having a fingerprint lock on your device in the first place. The good thing is, this is probably something Google can fix in software, so it’s worth keeping an eye on.

In the meantime, if you own the device and are concerned about its security, you should probably just set a secure passcode.
