Samsung announced that its 7.6-inch foldable panel, similar to the one used in the Galaxy Z Fold5, passed the US Department of Defense test method standard, better known as MIL-STD-810. The standard confirms that the product can operate without damage under harsh conditions such as extreme temperature changes and external shocks.

Samsung Display has revealed that it is the first company in the world to acquire this type of military-grade certification for foldable OLED panels.

The Samsung Folding Panel is now MIL-STD-810 compliant

Each product that goes through the testing process must withstand extreme conditions, such as working after four hours covered in a 6mm layer of ice after being sprayed with -10 degrees C water.

The panel continued to work even when the ambient temperature varied between -32 and +63 degrees for 2 hours each; each test must be completed three times.

The stress test also includes 26 drops from 4 feet (1.22 meters, which is the real height), and the panel also withstood 10.5 G pressure through fast rotations.

A representative from Samsung Display told Korean media that foldable devices do not lack durability, which is a common misconception. This standard is expected to open the door to wider applications of foldable panels in the near future.
