The Samsung Galaxy S24 series arrives to prove that artificial intelligence is the future, but a simple update matters more here and now: all three S24 phones feature LTPO displays with variable refresh rates from 1 to 120 Hz. The Ultra phones already had this, but this is a long-awaited update for people who prefer the Vanilla and Plus models.

The Samsung Galaxy S24+ gets another upgrade: QHD+ resolution. This, on a flat 6.7-inch display, brings the experience closer to the Ultra at a lower price. The phone is about the same size as the S23+ (0.3mm narrower, 0.7mm taller, 0.1mm thicker) and weighs the same but has a tenth of an inch larger display and a battery with 200 mAh more capacity (4,900 mAh).

Another notable change is that all S24+ configurations now have 12GB of RAM, like the Ultra. As for storage, you can choose between 256GB and 512GB.

Now we come to the part that Samsung has been silent about: the S24 Ultra will exclusively use Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the Galaxy chipsets, the S24 and S24+ will only get it in some regions. Elsewhere they’ll be getting the new Exynos 2400. We’re yet to see which region will get what, so stay tuned.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 also has a tenth larger display (6.2”), but remains with FHD+ resolution. At least the panel has been upgraded to LTPO (1-120Hz). Additionally, the S24 trio boasts a peak brightness of 2,600 nits with Vision Booster (last year’s displays reached 1,750 nits).

The Galaxy S24 also has a slightly larger battery: 100 mAh more brings its capacity to 4,000 mAh. However, charging remains limited to 25W wired and 15W wireless. Charging on the Galaxy S24+ is also unchanged (45W wired, 15W wireless with Qi charging). Using a compatible USB charger, the S24 reaches 50% in 30 minutes, the S24+ at 65% in the same time.

We’ve already mentioned the Exynos situation, but we should point out that the vanilla model also missed the memory upgrade: the base configuration still only has 8GB of RAM and just 128GB of storage.

Let’s see if this lifts your mood: Samsung Galaxy S24 series will receive 7 generations of OS updates and 7 years of security patches. These phones will continue to receive support into the 2030s! Obviously they launch with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.

We should also cover the cameras (this will be short). The S24 and S24+ are equipped with a 50 MP main camera (f/1.8 lens with OIS), a 12 MP ultrawide (120°) and a 10 MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom (f/2.4), the front camera has a 12 MP sensor (f/ 2.2 80° lens), no changes here.

In terms of construction, the S24 and S24+ are made of aluminum (unlike the Ultra, which now has a titanium frame) and last year’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The dust and water resistance rating is IP68 as expected.

Sub-6GHz and mmWave variants of both phones are available, availability varies by region. Other connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E (not 7) and Bluetooth 5.3.

The Galaxy S24 starts at $800/€900/£800 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Galaxy S24+ starts at $1,000/€1,150/£1,000 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
