Earlier today, Qualcomm ditched the Snapdragon W5 and W5 + wearable chipsets and a few hours later we already know what the first smartwatches to be powered by the two new platforms will be.

For the Snapdragon W5, it is the Oppo Watch 3, which will be launched in August. The information comes directly from Oppo’s associate vice president and IoT Business president Franco Li. He refers to the Watch 3 as a series, so we’re expecting more than one model, but at least one of them should mark the W5 platform’s debut in an actual product.

Whether or not that product will be released globally remains to be seen, hopefully it will as the world of wearables is in dire need of more competition. And while we’re on the note of hope, let’s also remember that we hope Qualcomm’s claims about battery life and performance related to the W5 and W5 + are successful.

Mobvoi will follow Oppo with its next-generation flagship TicWatch smartwatch, which is expected to launch this fall. The still unnamed TicWatch (which will most likely end up being called the TicWatch Pro 4) will be the first smartwatch that uses the Snapdragon W5 +. This information also comes directly from the company itself, in this case directly from Mobvoi CEO Zhifei Li.

There are no other official details on these two product lines to come, but a past rumor has stated that there will be three models of the Oppo Watch 3 (which fit!), All with a high screen-to-body ratio and boxy designs, which should be offered in black, silver, dark gray and “light gold”.
