The mythical first folding smartphone OnePlus will arrive in the third quarter of this year, according to CEO Pete Lau himself. Now a new rumor from a generally reliable source refines some of the finer details.

First, the presentation will take place in New York in the first half of August. This means that it will be announced just a week or two after Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5, if we follow the latest rumors that the Korean company’s next Unpacked event is scheduled for July 26th. That’s a pretty bold stance from OnePlus, wanting to steal some of the thunder from Samsung.

Next up, the device is said to undergo a global rollout with, thankfully, no weird shenanigans (looking at you, Pixel Fold!). This obviously means that it will be available in the US, India and all other countries where OnePlus currently sells its products.

Interestingly, Oppo is also rumored to debut its Find N3 in China in August, and according to past rumours, the OnePlus Fold may simply serve as an international version of that phone. If so, expect it to boast an internal 8-inch foldable screen with QHD+ resolution and an external 6.5-inch FHD+ screen, both with 120Hz refresh rate.

Inside will be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The OnePlus Fold is expected to run Android 13 with OxygenOS 13.1 on top, which is a bit disappointing considering the fact that it will presumably launch right around the time Google is releasing Android 14.

Either way, rounding out the specs are a 4,800mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging, a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 48MP ultrawide, a 32MP periscope telephoto, and a pair of 32MP selfie shooter, one for each. screen.
