The RTX 4070 runs on a scaled-down version of the AD104 GPU based on the company’s latest Ada Lovelace architecture. Compared to the RTX 4070 Ti which uses the same GPU, the RTX 4070 has 5888 CUDA cores versus 7680 and can boost up to 2475 MHz versus 2610 MHz. Memory is the same on both; 12GB GDDR6X with 192-bit bus, 21Gbps speed, and 504Gbps bandwidth.

Like the other 40-series cards, the RTX 4070 includes 3rd generation RT cores and 4th generation Tensor cores, which enable features such as shader execution reordering and DLSS3 frame generation. There’s also the 8th generation NVENC encoder for encoding in AV1, although there’s only one on the RTX 4070 compared to two on the other 40-series cards.

The 4070 has a total graphics power of 200W, with a claimed average gaming power rating of 186W.

Nvidia claims that the RTX 4070 offers the same level of performance as the RTX 3080 while running at half the power. The RTX 4070 also has 12GB of memory compared to the standard 3080’s 10GB. By frame generation, Nvidia claims the RTX 4070 is 1.4x faster than the 3080 and 2.6x faster than the 2070 Super , none of which support this feature.

The RTX 4070 will be available tomorrow directly from Nvidia and from card partners such as ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, GALAX, GIGABYTE, INNO3D, KFA2, MSI, Palit, PNY and ZOTAC for a starting price of $599. Customers of the 4070 cards and other Series 40 cards will also receive the new Overwatch 2 Battle Pass Bundle with additional OW2 Coins until May 8, 2023.
