Say hello to Motorola ThinkPhone or as some call it – Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola – but we won’t.

It’s clearly a Motorola phone but the ThinkPad style is also evident. Beneath the all-black carbon fiber (which is the only available option) is a similar design to the Moto G72. But there’s more to the ThinkPhone than just a paint job.

Let’s do an unboxing before continuing. The Motorola ThinkPhone comes with a 68W charger and USB cable. There’s no case in the box, but you probably shouldn’t cover this sleek phone with a case.

You don’t even have to: the ThinkPhone is IP68 waterproof and dustproof, as well as MIL-STD-810H compliant to withstand drops of up to 1.3m onto concrete.

The ThinkPhone has a 6.6-inch 1080p OLED with 144Hz adaptive refresh rate. The software is stock Android 13 with the usual Motorola tweaks like quick launch gestures, a customizable sidebar, the lovely always-on Peak Display feature, and more. The ThinkPhone also comes with four recognizable ThinkPad wallpapers to match the feel.

Specs-wise, the Motorola ThinkPad is quite capable for the €999/$1,080 price tag. It packs a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip with 8GB or 12GB of RAM, a 50MP main camera, 13MP autofocus ultrawide, and a 2MP macro. There’s an 8MP Selfie at the opposite end.

Motorola went to great lengths to design the ThinkPhone. The back panel has a carbon fiber texture on top that is every bit as premium as that of a ThinkPad Carbon laptop. The ThinkPhone by Motorola logo etched into the bottom corner of the panel may not light up but it is tangible and premium.

Then there are the buttons. These are some of the prettiest buttons we’ve ever pressed on any phone. They are snappy but soft, it’s a very unique feeling. Pressing a button will also produce an audible click – trust us, you have to experience them yourself.

Finally, the ThinkPhone packs a generous 5,000mAh battery with wired (68W) and wireless (15W) fast charging. Stay tuned for the results of our review once the MWC storm subsides!
