The Motorola Edge 40 Pro popped up last month, appearing on Geekbench with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and making another appearance on the Google Play Console shortly after. Both occasions have hinted that this will be the global release of the Moto X40 from December.

That connection seems even more certain now that Evan Blass has shared renders and short videos of the phone — apparently, these belong on the Edge 40 Pro page at Motorola.com. Note that the naming scheme in the US is slightly different, so it should look like Moto Edge+ (2023).

One video mentions the display’s 165Hz refresh rate, which is indeed one of the highlights of the X40. Said display has a size of 6.7 inches, a 10-bit OLED panel with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 px (20:9) and has curved sides.

The phone is powered by SD 8 Gen 2 with up to 12GB of RAM (based on GPC data). The battery is expected to be a 4,600mAh power cell with 125W fast wired and 15W wireless charging (note that last year there were some differences between the X30 and Edge 30 Pro).

The X40 (and presumably the Moto Edge 40 Pro) features a 50MP main camera (1/1.55″ sensor, OIS), a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera (117°) and a zoom camera of 12MP (2x) On the front, there’s a 60MP selfie camera inside a centered hole.

As you can see from some of these images, the phone has stereo speakers (with Dolby Audio) and is water resistant (the X40 is IP68 rated).

There’s no word on when Motorola will unveil the Edge 40 Pro globally. It should also be joined by other models (for example a Vanilla Edge 40), although without an X40 Pro, there probably won’t be any sequel to the Edge 30 Ultra.
