Motorola presented Edge 40 Pro exactly one month ago and today the company continued with the vanilla model. The Motorola Edge 40 comes in Eclipse Black, Nebula Green, and Lunar Blue colors, and it’s the black model we got to the office for review. But before we put the Motorola Edge 40 through its paces, let’s take a quick look at what the smartphone has to offer.

Unlike the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, which comes in a black box, the retail unit of the Edge 40 comes in a recycled box similar to last year’s Edge 30 Ultra. It includes a clear protective case, a SIM eject tool, a USB-C cable, a 68W power adapter, and the usual documentation.

The Motorola Edge 40 is built around a 6.55-inch FullHD+ OLED panel with a screen refresh rate of 144Hz, touch sampling rate of 360Hz, and peak brightness of 1,200 nits. It supports HDR10+ and has a fingerprint reader underneath for biometric authentication and a centered punch hole for the 32MP selfie camera.

Around the back, we find a squircle-shaped camera island that houses two LED flash modules and two cameras: 50MP primary (with OIS) and 13MP ultrawide. The latter has autofocus so you can take macro photos with it.

Like the Nebula Green model, the Eclipse Black model we received also weighs 171g and sports a back panel with a vegan leather finish, but the back cover on the Lunar Blue version uses acrylic plastic and weighs 167g. However, all three variants have IP68 dust and water resistance.

Powering the Motorola Edge 40 is the Dimension 8020 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The smartphone runs Android 13 out of the box, but we are still waiting to know how many Android version updates it will get.

The Edge 40 also comes with Dolby Atmos and stereo speakers, and keeping the whole package up and running is a 4,400mAh battery charged via a USB-C port at up to 68W. The smartphone also supports 15W wireless charging. w.

The leather-like finish feels rubbery to the touch and already has a worn look. It’s not for everyone: we find it a bit sloppy out of the box.
