Sony is expected to launch its next flagship TWS offshoots soon. There are no official details on the WF-1000XM5, but there are unofficial ones. In this generation the focus seems to be on comfort and fast charging.

The new buds will be lighter at 5.9g, compared to the fairly heavy 7.3g buds of the XM4 generation. They will also be physically smaller, the combination of the two factors should make them much more comfortable.

Total listening time (including the case) will be 24 hours, the same as the previous generation. However, the new earbuds will be able to do quick charges: 3 minutes in the case will charge enough charge to last 1 hour of use (previously it took 5 minutes to do the same). The case itself charges via USB-C and wirelessly with Qi charging.

The new buds will have better voice reception (it’s unclear whether through better microphones or better processing) and will have multipoint connectivity out of the box (something the XM4 buds received as an upgrade).

There’s no word on when the Sony WF-1000XM5s will be unveiled or how much they’ll cost. The WF-1000XM4 came out in June 2021 and cost $280/€280 at launch.
