The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max may skip solid-state buttons, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reveals in his latest report. There are “unresolved glitches,” meaning the premium iPhone 15 models may need to launch with regular physical buttons after all.
The rumor has suggested that the volume rocker and alert slider of the iPhone 15 Pro series will switch from the classic clickable button. Instead they had to be capacitive touch, like the home button on the iPhones of yesteryear.
Such a move would hurt suppliers. In particular, Cirrus Logic was supposed to produce the dedicated microprocessor for the new buttons; another is AAC Technologies, a Taptic Engine supplier. Another vendor, Luxshare ICT, is likely to be less affected due to a significantly larger scale of operations, Kuo wrote in the memo.

The products are still in EVT development (this is the period of validation and internal testing), which means that the decision could be reversed and we could see the new technology after all. If we don’t do this and Apple decides to stick with regular buttons once again, there will be little impact on mass production and the new iPhone Pro models should arrive on schedule.
