IQOO Z7 and Z7x have just been presented in China. Note that these are separate models from the Z7 5G, which launched in India last week. Also, there is no Pro model (yet), but the vanilla Z7 has taken on some qualities of the Z6 Pro (it even beats it in some respects).

iQOO Z7

The iQOO Z7 shares some similarities with the Z6 Pro (despite the name), although it’s not a true successor. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 782G, Qualcomm’s replacement for the 778G (+), which is what the Z6 Pro used (the vanilla Z6 used SD 695 instead.

Here it’s paired with 8 or 12GB of RAM (LPDDR4X) and 128/256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Unlike the vanilla Z6, the storage isn’t expandable. This phone (and the other Z7 models) launch with Android 13 and (at least in China) OriginOS 13. This supports up to 8GB of virtual RAM.

Another major upgrade this generation is the 5,000mAh battery, which now supports 120W fast charging (up from 5,000mAh/18W on Z6, 4,700mAh/66W on Z6 Pro). The company claims that 5 minutes of charging is enough for 5 hours of video streaming, a fully charged battery will last about 16 and a half hours of streaming.

The Z7 has a larger screen than either of its predecessors, a diagonal of 6.64 inches, and is an LCD (1,080 x 2,388 px, 19.9:9). It has a 120Hz refresh rate and supports HDR10 with 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

The camera on the back is pretty basic, a single 64MP module (f/1.8 lens with OIS), plus a 2MP depth sensor. There is no ultra wide here. The front camera features a 16 MP sensor. Both face unlock and a side-mounted fingerprint reader are available.

The Z7 has a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX Adaptive and LDAC support. Your phone is certified for High-Resolution Audio (both wired and wireless).

iQOO Z7x

The iQOO Z7x is more like the vanilla Z6. It uses the same Snapdragon 695 chipset with 6/8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128/256GB UFS 2.2 storage. And it has a microSD slot for cards up to 1TB.

The battery has gotten bigger and faster, now having a capacity of 6,000mAh and charging at 80W (compared to 5,000mAh/18W on the Z6). It’s not as fast as the Z7 battery, but some may prefer the extra capacity over the speed. And it’s not that this is slow, it gets to 70% in 34 minutes. If you get to 100%, it should be almost 19 hours of video watching.

Like its sibling, the x-phone has a 6.64″ LCD (1,080 by 2,380px, 19.9:9 aspect ratio) with 120Hz refresh rate. This display covers the full DCI-P3 range, but lacks HDR10 .

Punched into the display is the 8 MP selfie camera, the side-mounted fingerprint reader is also still on board. As for the rear camera, it has a 50MP sensor (f/1.8 lens, no OIS), plus a 2MP depth sensor.

The Bluetooth version is slightly older (v5.1), but you still get aptX Adaptive and LDAC support, as well as a 3.5mm jack for wired headphone fans.
