Huawei is preparing to bring the pill-shaped hole back to life, according to the leaks. The feature was last seen in the Mate 40 and P40 lines in 2020, and now the company is preparing to separate the dual cameras and ToF 3D sensors from the bezel once again with the Mate 60 series this fall.

This will also mark the first time that Huawei has launched this centrally positioned dual selfie camera design, introduced by Apple in the iPhone 14 Pro series.

Huawei presents its own Dynamic Island with the Mate 60 series

Two cameras, one of which is a ToF sensor is not a new feature for Huawei flagships. It’s been around since 2019 and the launch of the Mate 30, and even made its way to the P-series for a short time. The difference now is the placement: It was on the side or behind a full-fledged notch on previous Mate phones.

When Apple brought out its latest iPhones, it also introduced a software feature called Dynamic Island, making the most of the cutout that few found aesthetically pleasing. We expect Huawei to do something similar, designing notifications and apps focused on optimizing and using this small but seemingly important area for customers.
