Xiaomi today announced a partnership with Leica, which marked the end of the long-standing collaboration between the camera manufacturer and Huawei (since 2016). The Chinese technology giant wrote “We can confirm that the collaboration between our two companies ended on March 31” after being contacted by Android authority.

This means that the P50 and P50 Pro are the latest Huawei phones with Leica cameras. The P50 Pocket skipped the Leica branding, despite being launched in December last year (months before the official end of the partnership). This means that the Huawei Mate 50, whenever it may appear, will also go with an unbranded camera.

As early as May last year, it was speculated that Leica was trying to abandon ship after Huawei’s market share dropped due to trade sanctions. Xiaomi and Honor have been flagged as potential new partners and it looks like Xiaomi ultimately won. The company’s first Leica phone will arrive in July and will likely be the Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
