The new Honor Play 40 is here and it looks different: it’s the same on the inside, but it looks different on the outside. The company also unveiled a sleek new tablet with multimedia in its blood.

The Honor Play 40 is powered by the same Snapdragon 480+ chipset as the Play 30. This time, however, it has better memory configurations: 6/128GB, 8/128GB and even 8/256GB. You can add up to 5GB of virtual RAM. It also launches with MagicOS 7.1 (based on Android 13), while its predecessor came with Android 11.

The display is essentially the same as before, a 6.56-inch LCD with a resolution of 720 x 1,612 px (just over 20:9). It has a 90Hz refresh rate and a 5MP selfie camera notched at the top.

The rear camera features a 13MP main module with 1080p video recording and a 2MP depth sensor (this sensor is a new addition, but we would have preferred a UW lens).

Moving on, the battery is slightly larger at 5,200mAh (from 200mAh and up), but it still only supports 10W basic charging. In addition to the USB-C port, there’s also a headphone jack 3.5mm jack and the phone has Hi-Res Audio certifications (both wired and wireless).

Actually, the biggest update here is the new look with four color options. The camera island is flat, but it’s distinguished by a different surface finish (the camera lenses stick out, though) and there’s a glittery ring around the “AI camera” label.
