Oppo did not announce a new flagship phone at MWC but instead focused on its portfolio of smart devices. We had the chance to test the Oppo Air Glass 2 assisted reality glasses, as well as the company’s Zero-power tag and EasyMesh Wi-Fi 6 router.

Oppo Air Glass 2

Oppo’s Air Glass 2 is a pair of assistive reality glasses, which means they project information about the user’s vision without obstructing their vision or perception of the world around them. Air Glass 2 was announced at the Oppo Inno Day 2022 in December and features the Oppo-developed resin SRG diffractive waveguide lens with vision correction support. Air Glass 2 encloses a pair of microLED displays housed on the sides of the frames and transmit information at up to 1,000 nits of brightness per eye.

The frames are further customizable to meet the needs of the wearer. Oppo Air Glass 2 weighs just 38 grams, a fraction of most AR/VR headsets, and actually looks like a normal pair of reading glasses. These glasses act as companions to your smartphone as they can be used to make calls, show navigation routes and read notifications, all without requiring any wired connectivity during use. Oppo has also added the ability to translate from one language to another and convert voice to text for the hard of hearing.

The glasses are equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4100 platform, which is used on most high-end smartwatches. Their 200mAh battery is rated for up to 3 hours of use and charges via magnetic pins located on the back of the frames.

You get a couple of buttons on each side of the frames which are used to control the interface and speakers to let you hear what’s going on. The layout of the interface is quite simple – you get weather, maps and calendar apps as well as a teleprompter which would be really useful for presentations and a translation app. All menus are shown in a bright green font which gives you a strong Matrix vibe.

Oppo Air Glass 2 is still only in its concept stage, so it remains to be seen when Oppo will actually make the leap to a commercially available pair.

Oppo Zero-power label

The second product we spent some time with at Oppo’s MWC booth is the Zero-power tag. This is a really cool prototype that aims to fix one of the few downsides of smart trackers: batteries. Being a zero power device means there is no battery inside the Oppo tracker which instead relies on harvesting radio frequency energy from the surrounding area to transmit location data.

The card-sized device can be attached to your purse or other items and used to track their location. On paper, you should get the benefits of a smart tracker albeit substantially larger in size than something like and Air Tag.

On the plus side, you won’t have to charge or replace the battery every few months, which is a win for the environment. We hope to see more zero-power devices from Oppo and other manufacturers as soon as possible.

Oppo Wi-Fi 6 router

Oppo has also unveiled its latest Wi-Fi 6 router which has a really cutting-edge design with a see-through transparent case and long antennas that extend all the way to the top of the case. This router supports EasyMesh network support with multiple access points meant to cover larger areas.

The system should ensure stable performance in larger offices or homes without the need to invest in additional Wi-Fi extenders or routers for different areas. Oppo has developed an easy-to-follow web interface for setting up and controlling the router, as well as a companion Oppo Connect app for your smartphone.
