A few hours ago, some CAD-based renders of the upcoming Google Pixel 9 Pro were released, and now it’s time for its smaller, more affordable sibling to get the exact same treatment. Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you Google Pixel 9.

Right from the start, one thing becomes clear. Unlike the Pixel 8, the Pixel 9 has three cameras on the back, one of which obviously has a periscope zoom lens. This is a huge update for the “vanilla” Pixel line and one that makes it much more in tune with the Pro, specs-wise.

Moving forward, the other obvious thing is that Google has also been plagued by the ‘flat sides’ disease started by Apple some time ago. Gone is the curved frame of the Pixel 8, what remains is the flatness similar to that of the iPhone. We don’t particularly care if a frame is flat or not, but we feel the need to point out that every company doing the same thing is just… boring and repetitive?

Anyway, the camera island is also different. It no longer spills into the frame. Now the entire island is oval-shaped (in the Pixel 8 only the part that actually housed the cameras was oval) and still takes up almost the entire width of the phone. It just doesn’t end up in the frame, now it ends up next to it. It also appears to be made of metal like before. While not identical to what we’ve seen in previous Pixels, this makes the phone clearly recognisable AS a pixel.

On the front you can see the frame thanks to its flatness. The screen bezels appear to be perfectly symmetrical, which is very welcome, and in the top center section of the screen there is a single cutout for the selfie camera.

According to the source of these renders, the Pixel 9 will measure 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm (while the camera bump will bring the thickness to 12 mm). This makes it slightly taller, wider and thinner than its predecessor. It is expected to have a 6.1-inch screen, which is smaller than that of the Pixel 8 but may have a slightly different aspect ratio.

No other details about the Pixel 9 are known yet, but that’s not a big deal considering it shouldn’t go official until about eight months from now. Surely by then we will have been inundated with leaks for a while, as always happens with the Pixels. Stay tuned and we’ll let you know when we know more.
