Google Pixel owners are reporting battery drain issues in droves. The problem appears to have appeared after a weekend update rolled out to the Google app and is affecting at least the Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and 7 and 7 Pro.
Users report that the phones get very hot and experience severe battery drain. According to the Android system report, the Google app is the main cause of the problems, although some users also report Android System Intelligence as a problem.
Those who have contacted Google support say the steps they were advised to try didn’t work. These include restoring to a previous version of the Google app and even performing a factory reset.

Since neither an older version of the app nor a factory reset fixes the problem, it could be server related. Google has yet to formally address the issue or commit to fixing it.
For what it’s worth, we experienced no issues on either of our Pixel 6 and 7 devices.
