Doogee is best known for its rugged phones, most of which are quite large. With the launch of the Doogee Smini the company demonstrates that even the dimensions can be reduced: it is one of the smallest Androids around. And if you think bigger screens are better, there’s also the new Doogee N50 Pro.

Doogee Smini

The Doogee Smini measures 133.0 x 60.0 x 13.5 mm and weighs 155 g. For comparison, an iPhone 13 mini measures 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.7 mm and weighs 141 g. The Smini isn’t a slim phone, but that’s because Doogee is a fan of large batteries: the Smini has a 3,000 mAh power cell (compared to the iPhone’s 2,438 mAh). The phone supports 18W charging.

While we’re talking about size, the phone is built around a 4.5-inch display with 480 x 1,170 px (an IPS LCD). Note the second display on the back: it shows temperature and humidity, time and date, battery level and charging status. Keep in mind that this is an old school 7 segment style display to save power.

Both the Doogee Smini and N50 Pro are advertised as outdoor photography phones. But to photograph the outdoors, the phone must first survive the wilderness. Like its bigger brothers, the Smini packs a punch and is rated IP68 (dust and water resistance) and IP69K (resistance against high-pressure and high-temperature water jets), plus it complies with the MIL-STD standard -810H, so it can also resist drops.

The phone is powered by the Helio G99 and runs Android 13 out of the box. The chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM (you can also enable up to 7GB of virtual RAM) and 256GB of storage, plus you can add a microSD card (up to 2TB, note: this is a dual-SIM phone with a hybrid slot).

The photography capabilities of the Smini are based on the 50MP main camera and a 2MP macro camera on the back. There is also an 8MP selfie camera on the front.

The phone features a side-mounted fingerprint reader for security and a custom button that can be set to launch the apps you use most often. Small as it may be, the Smini also has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
