On Wednesday, Disney held its FY22 third quarter earnings webcast in which the global entertainment company announced that its Disney Plus subscription service would see a price hike by the end of the year. Hulu and ESPN Plus – two other Disney-owned streaming services – would also see rate hikes.

Although Disney is raising the prices of its services (from $ 7.99 to $ 10.99 per month), it will add an ad-supported tier for $ 7.99 per month. Hulu will go up from $ 6.99 to $ 7.99 for the ad-supported tier with the ad-free version ranging from $ 12.99 to $ 14.99. ESPN Plus ranges from $ 6.99 to $ 9.99.

The Disney Plus and Hulu price increases will take effect on December 8, the same day the Disney Plus ad-supported tier will be launched. Meanwhile, the new ESPN Plus price change will take effect much earlier, on August 23. .

During the earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said his ad levels will have “lower ad load and frequency to ensure a great viewer experience.” Disney will also not post ads on children’s profiles.
