A new leak from an insider at Google has revealed our first detailed look at the Pixel 8 series cameras. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will have an updated 50MP primary camera sensor with Samsung’s ISOCELL GN2 replacing the ISOCELL GN1 of the Pixel 7 series.

The new leak also clarifies that the Pixel 8 will retain its predecessor’s 12MP Sony IMX386 ultrawide camera sensor, while the field of view will be slightly wider with a zoom ratio of 0.55x this time around compared to 0.67x on the Pixel 7. .

The Pixel 8 Pro will bring a new 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor for the ultrawide lens with a 0.49x zoom ratio. The Pro model also retains the 48MP Samsung GM5 telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The Pixel 8 Pro will get a new 8×8 sensor VL53L8 time-of-flight (ToF) sensor that should help with autofocus performance.

Both Pixel 8 phones will also retain the 11MP Samsung 3J1 front cameras. We also get clarification that the thermometer sensor that was leaked a while ago will be exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro and uses the Melexis MLX90632 body temperature sensor.

In terms of camera software, the Pixel 8 series will have a new adaptive flashlight feature that automatically adjusts the intensity of the LED flash to avoid overexposed shots and videos in low light conditions. Scene segmentation is another new feature that will enable selective AI processing for different parts of images. Cinematic mode videos will also benefit from a new bokeh blur selection tool.
