Based on the last Channels report, a total of 36.4 million smartphones were shipped to India in the April-June period. The figure represents a drop of five percentage points from the 38 million units shipped in the first quarter. This is the third consecutive quarter of declining shipments.

Canalys: Smartphone shipments in India decline for the third consecutive quarter

Chinese suppliers accounted for 76% of all smartphone shipments to India for the period with Xiaomi leading with 7 million shipments and 19% market share. Samsung shipped 6.7 million devices and came second in terms of market share with 18%. The first three were completed by realme which handled 6.1 million shipments and a market share of 17%. The other two brands in the top five were vivo (6 million shipments) and Oppo (5.5 million) with market shares of 16% and 15% respectively.

There is some good news: overall shipments increased 12% from Q2 2021 values. The main reason for lower demand this quarter was high inflation levels which altered consumer spending patterns and demand. of smartphone. Brands like Xiaomi, vivo and Oppo have also been scrutinized for tax evasion and money laundering probes.
