Apple recently activated the Satellite Emergency SOS feature available on the iPhone 14 series in the US and Canada and has already helped rescue a man stranded at Nimiuk Point, Alaska. The Alaska Department of Public Safety issued a report clarifying that a stranded snowmobile was rescued by Alaska State troopers on December 1 at 2:00 am local time after the person activated the Emergency SOS function on the his iPhone.
The report clarified that the Apple Emergency Response Center contacted the Northwest Arctic District Search and Rescue Department with the exact GPS coordinates of the stranded man. A team of four volunteers was then dispatched and tracked him down.
Apple’s Emergency SOS feature is currently live in the US and Canada for Apple users and is expected to roll out to France, Germany, Ireland and the UK later this month.
