It seems the rumors were always right: Apple just confirmed today that it will release what it calls iPadOS 16 on Monday, October 24th. This is exactly the date it was rumored about last week.

Apple released iOS 16 last month but, for the first time since separating the phone OS from the tablet OS, it didn’t ship iPadOS 16 at the same time. The delay reportedly has to do with multitasking functionality. Recently introduced Stage Manager, which will be available for iPads with M1 and M2 chipsets.

The October 24 version is called by Apple iPadOS 16, but it could arrive as iPadOS 16.1, along with a version of iOS 16.1, meaning the versions of the two operating systems would sync again. At least that’s what some rumors have led us to believe so far. Everything will undoubtedly be clear next Monday.

Unsurprisingly, the new iPads announced today will ship with iPadOS 16 pre-installed. The update will be available for the vanilla iPad (5th generation and later), iPad mini (5th generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), as well as all iPad Pro models.
