Apple will unveil Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 at its “Wonderlust” event on September 12. Both smartwatches are said to be similar to their predecessors, but Bloomberg says these watches will use a new version of Apple’s optical heart rate sensor instead of the third-generation heart rate sensor in the Watch Series 8 and Watch Ultra.

The Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 will also receive various other sensor and internal component upgrades focused on speed, accuracy, and efficiency. Also like the iPhone 15 series, they will come with the new ultra-wideband U2 chip to improve Find My capabilities.

However, the publication states that performance will be a focus for the Apple Watch this year, with the Cupertino-based tech giant expecting to “strongly drive major gains in processing speed.” We’ve already heard that a new A15-based SoC will power the Watch Series 9.

The Apple Watch Series 9 will be offered in 41mm and 45mm sizes, while the Watch Ultra 2, which is expected to be made from more recycled materials and will have a black color option, will be available in a single 49mm size .

Apple is also testing 3D printed cases for the Watch Series 9’s stainless steel models, with the Ultra line expected to make the change starting next year.

Additionally, Apple is reportedly moving away from some of its leather watch bands and may update or discontinue production of its stainless steel link bracelets.

With the event just two days away, there’s little wait to see what the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 will offer. In the meantime, you can read our long-term review of the Apple Watch Series 8 here if you plan to buy one.
