The 10th generation iPad launched in October with a redesigned look and specs that closely resemble 2020’s 4th generation iPad Air. The new base iPad underwent a teardown by iFixit that revealed some interesting aspects such as why it lacks support for the second-gen Apple Pencil and the degree of difficulty for repairs.
Removing the unlaminated 10.6-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD reveals an internal layout nearly identical to that of the 2020 iPad Air. The main difference is that the new 2022 iPad offers a horizontally positioned selfie camera, a first on any iPad and that decision leaves no room for the magnets used on other iPads to help secure the Apple Pencil 2.
The teardown also shows that the logic board is glued to the chassis while the USB-C ribbon cable is soldered, making it extremely difficult to repair. Watch the full video below.
