Remember when Android had widgets on the lock screen? Well, Android 14 could see the return of widgets like Mishaal Rahman on X brought to light an intriguing reference in the latest Android 14 beta build.

A new SystemUI flag called “widget_on_keyguard” suggests that Google is working to bring widgets back to the lock screen. However, since this was spotted in the latest Android 14 beta build designated for Pixel, this may be a Pixel-exclusive feature after all.

And while the evidence is slim, it makes sense for Google to bring back the feature since Apple rolled out its widgets to the iOS lock screen last year, likely triggering a response from the search giant.

In addition to the supposed new feature, the latest beta build lets you change the shortcuts on the lock screen. Yes, those located in the lower left and right corners of the screen. The feature has been spotted on Pixel phones again, so we don’t yet know if other Android 14 phones will get it.

So now, instead of default shortcuts, you can choose from a wide range of apps and actions. You can have the Camera app, turn on Do Not Disturb mode, Flashlight, Google Home app, Mute, QR code scanner, Wallet, or instant video recording.

All you have to do is go to the Wallpapers & Style menu in Settings, select Lock Screen, and find the Shortcuts submenu.
