Today, AMD detailed its Ryzen Pro 6000 chips, which will make their way into high-end business laptops in the second quarter. Some of these chips have already been announced as part of HP’s EliteBook 800 G9 series and Lenovo’s ThinkPad Z and T series.

In total, there are six H-series chips (35W-45W) and two U-series chips (15W-30W), and AMD keeps three Ryzen Pro 5000 processors lying around.

All Ryzen Pro 6000 processors are based on AMD’s latest Zen 3+ architecture, which is built on a 6nm node and promises up to 30% better performance. The Pro 6000 chips are paired with AMD’s RDNA 2 integrated graphics, which brings the biggest improvement over the Pro 5000 series.

Of the eight new processors, three have six cores and twelve threads and the other five are all eight cores with sixteen threads.

AMD’s tests state that the 6850U processor is 1.1 times faster than its predecessor with the same TDP of 15W and 1.3 times faster with the nominal TDP of 28W. Graphically, the RDNA GPU 2 is 1.5x faster at 15W and 2.1x faster at 28W.

AMD has compared its new U processors to Intel’s 12th Generation 28W P-Series and claims Ryzen Pro 6000 is faster in Cinebench R23 multi-thread, graphics, Passmark 10, PCMark 10, PCMark 10 Extended, and PCMark 10 Productivity, while Intel chips are faster in single-core tests.

In terms of battery life, AMD’s tests show a Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U paired with a 76 WHr battery running for 26 hours at 150 nits on MobileMark 2018.
