Star Wars: Battlefront 2 came out way back in 2005. Not only have we had many Star Wars games since then, but we’ve also had new iterations of this series from EA.

It can be hard to tell if this game is worth grabbing when there are so many alternatives out there. So, is it a more elegant game than a more civilized era, or something only a scruffy nerfherder would still play?

Let’s find out!

Campaign mode

Many Battlefront 2 fans remember campaign mode fondly. This is largely why fans have responded negatively to the fact that EA’s first Battlefront game didn’t have any campaign mode (something that has been fixed for the sequel).

To be honest though, the campaign was pretty straightforward. It’s basically a glorified tutorial for the rest of the game, giving players a chance to try out the various units, vehicles, and game modes before diving into multiplayer.

However, the campaign stands out in some positive ways. Temuera Morrison’s narrative (who played both Jango Fett and the clones based on that character) makes it all feel very grounded and authentic. And it’s fun to walk as the clones as their mission slowly shifts from supporting the Jedi to eliminating them.

Multiple factions

Battlefront 2’s campaign mode is firmly in the prequel era. However, the other game modes allow you to play both the prequel era and the original Trilogy era.

This is a great way to keep it Star Wars happy fans. And given the nature of the maps, it’s a great way to do some “what if” style missions.

For example, a small handful of maps only allow one era to play (like Hoth, which only allows skirmishes from the original Trilogy). But the vast majority allow any faction to play. Want to see what happens when the droids have taken over Jabba’s Palace or the Empire takes a stand on Naboo? This game helps make it happen!
