Mafia III is full of intoxicating topics, set in the 1960s against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, with protests peaking. You expect an open world crime game set over such a period of time to tell a gripping story that is more engaging than your average shooter.

Unfortunately, Mafia III is nowhere near as appealing as previous games. Developer Hangar 13 kept an eye on the ball when it came to topics, but impressed when it came to keeping things engaging.

History

Mafia III follows the plight of Vietnam veteran Lincoln Clay as he returns from his shift in New Bordeaux, a fictional version of New Orleans. There, he discovers that father figure Sammy Robinson is in trouble with the Haitian mafia.

Vietnam veteran Lincoln Clay returns from the war

Sammy is in debt and Lincoln agrees to help him clean it up by participating in a robbery. When the plan goes wrong, Sammy is killed in front of him. Lincoln is given up for dead, but manages to escape. Thus begins this heartbreaking story of revenge. Lincoln is looking for blood and doesn’t care where he comes from.

Eventually, Lincoln makes it his mission to eliminate Sal Marcano, the head of the New Bordeaux mafia. It won’t be easy, but your job is to raise Lincoln up the ranks of the criminal underworld. Unfortunately, this means that you will be doing a lot of petty homework and engaging in boring shootings.
