History

I have always been fascinated by the story of Kratos. His failed anger-fueled journey of redemption during previous series entries had fascinated and amused me. That said, I’ll admit that his story arc has been firmly stuck in his vengeance state.

God of War Review | Gammick

God of War of 2018 takes a different perspective on this fallen warrior by presenting Kratos as someone who has buried his past rather than someone who tries to kill him to get out of it. Kratos in this game looks like a believable continuation of the destroyer of Olympus. But the writers cleverly show him a mature side, contenting themselves with living a peaceful life in the northern kingdom of Midgard with his new wife and his son.

However, that life is fractured early in the game when Kratos and Atreus greet the recently deceased Faye. Together, they set about fulfilling his last wish of scattering her ashes on top of the highest mountain on earth.

Now, Kratos and the family haven’t always had the best history. And Atreus brings a new challenge to The Ghost of Sparta as he must find a way to connect with his son as they both take very different approaches to mourning the loss of his wife and mother. Their relationship gets a lot of attention throughout history. It is truly moving to see the two of them work through the harsh realities of their world and through those challenges find the strength in each other to persevere.
