Bethesda has announced that it is working on an Indiana Jones game based on a new original story.

The game will take place separately from any of the four previously released films, as well as the upcoming fifth installment in the series which is expected to begin filming later this year.

MachineGames, the team responsible for the recent Wolfenstein titles, will lead the development of the project. Todd Howard will be the game’s executive producer.

Announcing the news on Twitter, the Bethesda account also revealed that the project is part of a new partnership with recently relaunched LucasFilm Games.

“It will take some time before we have more to reveal,” Bethesda wrote on Twitter, “but we are very excited to share today’s news!”

The short teaser trailer includes several references to the fictional archaeologist, such as his signature hat and whip. The iconic soundtrack also plays at the end of the footage, leaving fans with little doubt about the trailer’s subject matter.

So far, it is unknown when the Indiana Jones game will launch or what platforms it will be available on. It is also unclear whether Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda will mean the title will arrive first on Xbox platforms or as an exclusive version.
