It took Samsung several months, but the skin temperature sensor on the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro was finally enabled last week. However, these sensors are currently used for only one function: cycle monitoring based on skin temperature.
This is just the beginning, though. A Samsung official posted on the company’s Korean forum to reveal that more temperature-based features are under development and will come with future software updates.
However, the timing of the release is uncertain: such health monitoring features may require certification by local authorities in each region, which is why progress has been so slow.
One possible feature is to just show the wearer’s current temperature. You cannot see the reading right now, it is a hidden value used only for clock calculations.
Either way, there’s a good chance that the new features will debut with the upcoming Galaxy Watch6 series and will later carry over to the Watch5 series. The new models are expected by the end of July.
