MediaTek unveiled its latest flagship chipset – the Dimensity 9200 and brings several firsts to the smartphone industry. This is the first chipset launched with the Arm Cortex-X3 prime core clocked at 3.05 Ghz and based on the ARMv9 architecture. The CPU also carries 3 Arm Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.85 GHz and 4 Arm Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8 GHz. The new chip is manufactured with the second generation TSMC 4nm (N4P) process.

The second breakthrough is in the graphics department, where we have the ARM Immortalis-G715 GPU with hardware-based ray tracing engine, another first in the industry. The new flagship graphics unit offers Variable Rate Shading (VRS), double machine learning performance over its predecessor, and ARM Fixed Rate Compression (AFRC) for reduced bandwidth usage.

MediaTek is also bringing a sixth generation AI processing unit: the 690 APU which offers a 35% improvement over its predecessor in the ETHZ5.0 benchmark app. The chipset also offers support for fast LPDDR5X RAM with memory support up to 8,533 Mbps and UFS 4.0 storage for blazing fast data transmission and direct storage access to the CPU cores.

Connectivity 5G Sub-6 GHz, mmWave, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3
Screen 5K (2.5Kx2) at 60Hz, WHQD at 144Hz, 1080p at 240Hz

Dimensity 9200 Supports up to two displays with 5K resolution at 60Hz, WHQD at 144Hz, and 1080p at 240Hz refresh rate. This is also the first chipset to support Wi-Fi 7 with data transfers up to 6.5 Gbps. Both sub-6Ghz and mmWave 5G connectivity are integrated as well as Bluetooth 5.3.

The Imagiq 890 ISP offers native support for RGBW sensors along with 34% more power savings. MediaTek’s eXtreme Power Saving technology is an AI-powered feature that claims to use up to 30% less energy.

The first phones powered by Dimensity 9200 are expected to launch by the end of 2022, at which point there are less than two months to go.
