After the launch of the Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro, Huawei has now launched the flagship model of the family, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+. It is based on the regular Pro with some components dialed up to 11.

Let’s start from the top. Huawei is still keeping mum on the chipset powering the Mates, it is likely the 7nm Kirin 9000 made in China. Here it’s paired with more RAM, 16GB (compared to the Pro’s 12GB), and 512GB or 1TB of storage. This is expandable via Huawei’s proprietary NM card format (which after all these years still tops out at 256GB).

The display is a 6.82-inch LTPO OLED, just like the Pro, but it’s also a little sharper: it has 1,260 x 2,720 px. This is a 10-bit panel with a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz and features touch sampling at 300Hz. Brightness is controlled by a 1,440Hz high-frequency PWM dimmer.

Second generation Kunlun glass offers protection, the phone itself has an IP68 rating and can last half an hour at a depth of 6m/20ft.

The Pro+ also has three punch-holes in the display: one for the 13 MP selfie camera and two for the 3D ToF system.

As for the rear camera, the main module has a 48 MP sensor and an OIS-enabled lens with variable aperture (f/1.4-f/4.0). Added to this is the periscope with 48 MP sensor and 90 mm f/3.0 lens with OIS. Finally, the ultra-wide-angle camera has been upgraded to a 40MP sensor (up from 12MP on the other two Mate 60s).

The battery system is unchanged, it has a capacity of 5,000 mAh which can be charged at 88W via USB-C or at 50W wirelessly (both using Huawei’s proprietary technology). 20W reverse wireless charging is also available, for when you need to charge other gadgets. By the way, the USB-C port is wired for USB 3.1 Gen 1.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5.2 with LDAC and L2HC codecs. There is also NFC on board, there is also an IR blaster. The spec sheet avoids mentioning anything about 5G (or even 4G).

Like the other Mates, this one supports two-way text messaging over the BeiDou network. But here’s a unique feature: the Mate 60 Pro+ can also make voice calls via the Tiantong satellite. There are no details on the type of subscription required for this service.

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ is expected to start shipping by October 9th. Its price isn’t yet known, but you can put down a deposit of CNY 1,000 (that’s $135!) to reserve a place in line.

You can choose between the 512GB and 1TB versions and between the Black and Cream colors, the deposit is the same (the final price will not be, of course). For reference, a 12/512GB Mate 60 Pro costs CNY 7,000 ($950 / €890 / ₹79,000). The leaked information points to a price of CNY 9,000.
