Many apps have been infected by a dangerous malware – CheNews.it

The Android universe allows any user to create their own app and place it in the reference store. Despite the controls, it is not always easy to predict the absolutely negative and harmful ones. Recently, one in particular has brought out a dangerous spyware module.

The news was released by Bleeping Computers who talked about discovery made by a company that deals with information security Doctor Web. The discovered app would work in order to transfer data to hackers: if you have it, you must immediately delete it.

The SpinOK app is malware: it has infected 101 Play Store apps

The form that emerged from Doctor Web’s investigation is called SDKs, although the company calls it SpinOK. This form draws the attention of users thanks to the games, some actions to follow and the “rewards” present in the apps. Furthermore, SpinOK completely ignores proxy settings of the device and this leads to generating ads thanks to the connection via the remote server which, consequently, steals all the data present in the device.

From the research performed by the information security company it turned out that this module it has infected well 101 apps on the Google Play Store. Overall, these have been downloaded 420 million times. Among the most downloaded we find Noizz music video publisher, with 100,000 downloads and Zapya, a program for transferring and sharing files, also with 100,000 downloads. There are also other applications to consider that the average user may have downloaded:

  • VFly with approximately 50,000 downloads;
  • MVBit with approximately 50,000 downloads;
  • Biugo video editor program, with 50,000 downloads;
  • Crazy drops with around 10,000 downloads;
  • Cashzine with around 10,000 downloads;
  • Fizzo Novel with another 10,000 downloads;
  • CashEM with 5,000 downloads;
  • Tick with 5,000 downloads.

Given the great concern, Google has already purged a large number of infected apps from its store. The exception is given by the Zapya platform which, however, with the update to version 6.4.1 has eliminated the SpinOK module. If, on the other hand, you have downloaded one of these apps you cannot do much since the module will have already been activated. But you can proceed to uninstalling it by running a scan with an antivirus to check for malware. Apart from these infected apps, there are also other programs that can destroy your phonethis triggered a real virus alarm.
