Netflix will bring an ad-supported tier next year alongside Microsoft, but it may come without an offline viewing option. Developer Steve Moser text found within the Netflix iOS app code indicating “Downloads available on all plans except Netflix with ads.” Netflix has yet to comment on the matter, although it would make sense for the lower tier. The ad-supported Netflix tier is expected to launch in early 2023.
Netflix lost 1 million subscribers in the second quarter of 2022 and is also aiming to combat account sharing which is costing the streaming service millions of dollars. About 100 million households use shared passwords and do not pay service charges. Netflix plans to bring its ad-supported plan to markets where users spend more on monthly subscriptions first and then gradually roll out to other regions.
