The Microsoft Surface Duo released in September 2020 will no longer receive software updates. This includes Android version updates and security patches.
The Surface Duo launched with Android 10 out of the box and came with the promise of three years of Android security updates and OS updates. It received the Android 11 update in January 2022 and later in October, it was updated to Android 12L, which is the latest Android version update for the foldable. This is just two Android version updates, which isn’t impressive for a phone that launched with a $1,399 price tag.
The Microsoft Surface Duo 2, released in October 2021 with Android 11, also arrived with the promise of three years of security updates and OS upgrades. It received the Android 12L update last October and will not receive any Android version updates and security patches after October 21, 2024. It remains to be seen whether or not Microsoft will release a new Android OS update for the Surface Duo 2 before abandoning software support. .
