Happy spooky season everyone! It’s almost Halloween and what better way to celebrate than playing some horror games? There is no genre that can make you feel like horror games. Sure, FPS can provide high-speed action and open world games can take your breath away when you look at a new horizon, but nothing can compare to the feeling of running and fighting for your life in a horror game.

Playing iOS games is a wonderful way to stay in the world of horror games no matter where you go. So, we’re here to give you a list of ten of the best horror games you can find on the App Store! Some of these games need to be accessible through a paywall, so be sure to grab some iTunes gift cards from OffGamers here today!

1 Layers of fear

At the end of 2019, Layers of Fear was brought to the App Store. The game still looks gorgeous in 2022 despite being nearly 4 years old. It works great on the touchscreen and also offers full controller support.

You play as a painter who has gone mad in his villa after a tragic event. Layers of Fear is both a horror game and an interactive work of art. Indeed, the game is inspired by 19th century masterpiece paintings, architecture and design. You can walk and interact with the world, but soon everything around you will start writhing, dissolving and changing as you uncover all the secrets!

A hugely successful and well-liked horror game that spawned a decent sequel as well!

2 Forgotten memories

Here you play Rose Hawkins who wakes up in a strange place and is soon on a mission to find the missing child Eden. The game combines elements of puzzles, exploration, third-person action and survival.

Forgotten Memories is inspired by games from the 90s like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Despite being released in 2015, the game was heavily updated in 2019 with full gamepad support, rewritten and improved controls, a 60fps frame rate, and massive graphics overhaul. It’s pretty much a full remaster, so without thinking twice give it a try!

3 Emily wants to play too

Emily Wants to Play also has you follow an individual who delivers a sandwich order to a research facility. The place houses three dolls recently brought into storage. However, they have a mind of their own and cannot let any witnesses survive seeing them. Players must explore and try to escape from the dolls and their friends. Later, you will meet Emilly, who joins in the terrifying fun!

Emily Wants to Play is also significantly larger than the original game with new characters, new gameplay elements and improved graphics with an increasingly terrifying atmosphere. If you are afraid of dolls, you may want to drop this one.

4 Alien blackout

There is nothing more terrifying than a xenomorph chasing you. Alien Blackout captures this terror incredibly well. You play as Amanda Ripley hiding in the air vents of a spaceship.

You can use the ship’s emergency systems to help your crew survive the alien on board. You can tell your crew when to escape or hide, close doors for them, or use the motion sensor to track down the alien itself. Amanda is also not out of danger because at any moment the alien can reach her!

A wonderful spin-off of Alien Isolation, Alien Blackout proves that xenomorphs are always up to date from a horror point of view!

5 Small misfortune

At first glance, Little Disfortune looks cute and beautiful but don’t be fooled. The game focuses on mild horror with an eerie atmosphere and soundtrack. It has a convenient but well-written history.

If you didn’t know, Little Misfortune takes place in the universe of another horror game called Fran Boo, which, despite not reaching this list, is also worth a look.

Anyway, in Little Misfortune, you play the fanciful eight-year-old Ramirez. He is looking for a special gift for his mother: eternal happiness. This goal is led by Ramirez’s mysterious friend known as Mr Voice. Together they travel through the woods, encountering chilling mysteries and strange people. A truly disturbing experience!

6 Hello near hide and seek

Welcome to the Hello Neighbor prequel. In the original game, you sneak into your neighbor’s house to find out what terrifying secrets he is hiding. However, in Hide & Seek, you will have to deal with the events that actually make it lonely.

Here you start the game by playing the classic game of hide and seek with your brother to deal with the loss of a family member. Soon after, weird things start happening and the game gets really creepy.

In reality, Hide & Seek is very different from the original game, so get ready for a completely different experience. We wouldn’t want to spoil anything for you either, so be sure to give this game a try if you’re looking for more spooky experiences!

7 The Walking Dead series

Almost the entire Walking Dead series is available on the App Store. In the series, you can play through the story of Lee and Clementine trying to survive a zombie-infected apocalypse or play through the standalone adventure of Michone, the iconic blade-wielding character.

Each game in the series can make you feel like you are actually in the post-apocalyptic world of zombies, as shown in the TV series.

All the games are incredibly well written, especially the first game. They all have great comic art style that allows them to work great on mobile as they are not that fussy. Playing with a controller will create an even better gaming experience!

8 Dead for Deadlight

Dead by Deadlight is an asymmetrical 4 vs 1 horror game that, while not developed specifically for mobile devices, was ported to iOS in 2020. The mobile version is fully optimized with a more accessible and streamlined interface and touchscreen controls and washed out graphics for stable performance at a frame rate of 60 fps.

Take on the role of an assassin or survivor as you play a deadly game of hide and seek. Unexpected moments and jumping fears await you at any given moment. While it’s fun to play with random people on the internet, it’s even more fun with friends as you experience terrifying moments with the people you know.

9 The ghost

The Ghost is a first-person online horror game in which players along with five teammates try to escape from a madhouse. This is far from an easy task and it is likely that you will turn into a ghost before you even reach the exit.

The ghost is played by 5 players. All five of you are begotten in an asylum. It is a dark and spooky place where you are all trapped. Your goal is to find the items you need for your escape.

Even if you are good at finding things in games, keep in mind that you may not be exactly in your comfort zone as even a ghost will be well on their way to finding things, more specifically – you!

10 Alien: isolation

Despite being a pretty old game (released in 2014), compared to others on this list, we couldn’t miss this one. Alien Isolation is one of the best horror games of all time, not just in the App Store. Actually having it in the App Store is a miracle in itself and kudos to Feral Interactive for the perfect transition to mobile!

We’ve already included an Alien game on this list, but Alien Isolation is way ahead and is arguably the best game based on the franchise. After the events of the first film, you play Amanda Ripley trying to find out any information about her mother Ellen Ripley on the spaceship Sevastopol.

Being on this ship isn’t the most relaxing experience: hostile humans, android assassins, deadly obstacles, and of course the terrifying xenomorph awaits you around the corner. And all of this is presented in one of the best mobile graphics of all time!

To conclude:

Creating a list of the best horror games is no easy task. This is because a good horror game is one that really scares you and leaves a scar in your memory that will haunt you for days to come. Also, the scariest thing for someone might be good for someone else.

But even so, the games in the list above are quite different, and there’s a good chance that even if you hardly get scared with horror games, you might still find something that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
